Nonconformities and remedial actions explained

BRS records two related things when monitoring does not go to plan:

  • a nonconformity — a record that something was wrong or did not happen;
  • a remedial action — a job that needs doing to put it right.

What raises a nonconformity

  • Nonconformity — a recorded result outside its limits (see Non-conforming results).
  • Missed Test — a scheduled test whose working window passed with no result.
  • Data Entered In Arrears — results entered well after the visit date.
  • No Access — the engineer could not reach the asset.
  • Not Required — the test was marked as not needed on this occasion.

Statuses

Each nonconformity moves through the statuses your company has set up — typically from open, through reported / works ordered, to a status marked Authorising which counts it as resolved for KPI reporting.

Remedial actions

A remedial action is raised from a nonconformity (or added directly) with a type and a description. It stays outstanding until someone records that the work is done. Outstanding remedials show on the site planner and feed the KPI: remedials report.
